The Best Blogs and Newsletters to Read About Data and Product Analysis, Data Science, and Data Engineering
There Is No “Better” Strategy, Only What You Pick
Synthesizing Research as a PM and Taking Action Before Knowing Enough
+ a meme for my VC haters 😂
📚 The Best Blogs and Newsletters to Read About Data and Product Analysis, Data Science, and Data Engineering
It is my firm belief that companies who get the value of measurement have the highest chance of winning in the market, all things being equal.
But you probably already know that measurement is a good thing. (Unless you’re one of those who take apple pie positions about the evils of measurement “because Goodhart’s Law”. We're not friends, I'm sorry.)
The best thing you can do is subscribe your execs to all these blogs and say nothing of it. A few of them probably secretly feel the same way as you about metrics & data, and over time you’ll see a rise in the level of conversations across the org. Or you’ll get reprimanded. This is not career advice!
Here is a roundup of the best blogs and newsletters for analytics, data, finance, and engineering 👇🏽
Each blog or newsletter covers different topics related to analytics, data science, deep learning, product analytics, business, finance, and data engineering.
It's also where my friend Olga wrote about me, so in exchange, I write about her here and she writes about me there.

I have been made redundant before. I swore that I wouldn’t be dependent on 1 revenue stream ever again.
I decided that I needed to grow my online presence. I took 30for30 in April 2022.
Since then, I grew my online following from ~ 1K across all platforms to about ~ 15K (15X).
It took a lot of work, but I credit the habits and skill I learned in the course. It’s your turn:
👀 There Is No “Better” Strategy, Only What You Pick
This idea might not be news to you.
I might be too deep in my deep dive on how/where to build a B2B SaaS, so my mental shelf is primed for this information.
The example ~ 11:25 compares Adyen (with a lot of enterprise customers) & Stripe (with a long tail of SMBs) only to say: neither angle is “best”. It’s what you pick:
It was a good way to frame as well the trade-offs you’d be making.
It also points out founder/market fit: if you’re someone who’s good at sales, you’d probably pick Enterprise, and if you’re a product founder, SMB might be a better play.

Who's George?
I’m an underdog product manager.
Product management in New Zealand (where I live) is still a relatively immature discipline. I also came into it late via data science and UX. I may be older than others, but I often feel like a rookie.
To become better at my craft, I learn and explore new ideas relentlessly.
Then I share high-quality, tried-and-true ideas that can be used right away.
How I can help you:
If you’re learning about product as a cross-functional leader, I’ve compiled my best actionable finds in prodmgmt.world.
Get some help via prodmgmt.help. People ask about How to prioritise, How to do market research, how to work with engineers, how to go from a service to a product, how to develop a deep coherent product strategy, what books to read and courses to take on product topics & design systems product management.
see you next week.
